Synopsis
ASEM Symposium on Sustainable Forest Management to Address Climate Change will be held in Lin’an, Zhejiang province in Peoples Republic of China, on 28‐30 June 2011.
The Symposium is designed to provide participants from ASEM members with an opportunity to exchange views and share experience on forestry policies and sustainable forest management from a policy making perspective and to advance practical cooperation that promote forest‐based climate change mitigation and
adaptation actions. The symposium will comprise a mix of presentation and discussion on issues including:
Actions taken by each government to promote sustainable forest management; the significance of applying sustainable forest management to address climate change;
Best practices of sustainable forest management and its effect on climate change mitigation in each country;
Potential cooperation among countries and with other initiatives.
The symposium will be hosted by State Forestry Administration of China and co‐sponsored by Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, in partnership with the Asia‐Pacific Network for Sustainable Forest Management and Rehabilitation ( APFNet ) and the Chinese Academy of Forestry.
Expected Participation
All ASEM members are invited to send participants to the symposium. They could be:
Senior Official from counterpart Ministries;
Representatives from academies or think tank;
Representatives from international organizations across Asia and Europe who share an interest in maximizing the potential of forest‐related activities to mitigate climate change.

Please be informed that transportation will be offered by organizer from Hangzhou International Airport to Wonderland Hotel on 27 June. Itinerary Information is needed for transportation arrangement.

The symposium will be held on 28‐30 June, We suggested that you arrive in Lin’an on 27 June and depart on 1 July. Hotel accommodation for the nights of 27, 28, 29 and 30 (4 nights) will be booked by the organizer upon registration.

Funding Policy
One participant from each developing country will be provided with:
A round‐trip restricted economy class airfare for the most direct and economical route. Please note that air tickets will be purchased for participants by organizers.
Do not make any purchases without prior approval from organizers.Single occupancy rooms booked on the nights of 27, 28, 29 and 30 (4 nights) under the cost account of APFNet.
A set amount of Per diem provided to cover local transportation and other incidental expenses.
Please note that funded participants are kindly requested to send the scanned copy of your passport, which is compulsory for official invitations for visa application and
air tickets booking.
Passport and visa application
Passports should be valid for at least 6 months from the time when the visa is to be issued. Official invitations will be issued and sent to participants to assist their visa application in time. Visa on arrival to enter into China is not recommended.
Currency
The exchange rate is approximately USD 1 = CNY 6.50. Exchange facilities are available at the airport as well as at hotel. It is advisable to exchange your home currency at the airport on arrival.
Weather
Lin’an enjoys a very pleasant climate, with warm, dry summers and mild winters. In June, one of the hottest month, mean temperatures range from 25℃ to 30℃ plus. Summer apparel and light clothes are recommended.
