  Describe a wild animal

Key points: lion, living together, territory

I'd like to tell you something about a wild animal that I like a lot, which is lion. I watched an American cartoon movie called ‘Lion King’ when I was little. The movie was so fascinating to me back then, and that probably is the reason why I give a special favor to these big cats.【关于狮子的另一种说法】

The lions could usually be found 【被动语态,增加所用句子的多样性。】in the plain area of Africa. The most special thing about lions is that they are the only kind of feline animals who could live together. But, you know, they are aggressive animals who prey on other grass-eating creatures.【用比较简单的单词来表述自己的意思,而不要困在一两个单词上】 So living together could be a challenge for these big guys. And luckily, they came out with some really smart ideas. Roaring and the smell of their urine are adopted to mark the territories of each lion. They always roar a lot before the preying ritual at night as well as at dawn right after they are awake. If someone deliberately or accidentally steps into the lions' territory, they would drive those intruders away at once.

Personally, I think the cubs of lion are incredibly 【口语化的说法】cute. However, how do these fluffy little things become powerful predators is a little bit tricky. As they grow up, these baby lions start to learn the basic prey skills from their mothers. When the baby lions grow to a certain age, sometimes the mother lion would let them to be part of the preying process. They would work together as a team. Although the baby lions are not fully qualified for preying yet and they could make mistakes at times, this kind of practice is essential for their future survival. Just as human being, they need to be good workers to really earn a living.

  (1) Incorrect grammar and improper construction invariably distract readers'attention.

  (2) The history of vocabulary is, in many ways, the record of civilisation.

(3a) I came upon an old classmate when I went to town yesterday.

(3b) When I went to town yesterday, I came upon an old classmate.

(4a) Steel is commonly used to make knives, razors and other useful tools because of its durability.

(4b) Beacuse of its durability, steel is commonly used to make knives, razers and other useful tools.

(5a) I was delighted and amused by the classical opera

(5b) I was amused and delighted by the classical opera.

(6a) That singer's life was tragic and brief.

(6b) That singer's life was brief and tragic.

  (7) Tony ate his dinner, watched TV, and then went to bed.

  (8) Were you bored with years of study in elementary school, high school and institute of higher education?

  (9) Jackie enjoys the company of ladies. He likes their beauty, he likes their delicacy, he likes their vivacity,

  and he likes their silence.

  (10) ...the land stretched out without names. Nameless headlands split the surf; nameless lakes reflected the

nameless mountains and nameless rivers flowed through nameless valleys and nameless bays.

(11a) A pedestrian was struck on the head by a flying stone.

(11b) A flying stone struck a pedestrian on the head.

  (12) Seven dwarfs lived here in the centre of the dark forest. → Here, in the centre of the dark forest

  lived seven dwarfs.

  (13) Severity breeds fear; roughness breeds hatred.

  (14) Honesty recommends that I speak; self-interest demands that I remain silent.
